Chinese Rice Field

Creative Workshops

14 Jan - 23 Jan

This participatory installation will take over the Lightwell Bay Window during the summer school holidays, with visitors invited to contribute to the making of an evolving, immersive Chinese landscape. Help create a visual and auditory landscape using sounds from using ancient Chinese instruments,  bamboo chimes, chopsticks, woks, rice beads, Chinese dried food and yarn.

  • Drop in from 10am – 3pm to see the Chinese Rice Field installation.
14 – 18 Jan: Join in! Contribute to the installation and participate in workshop activities, guided by members of the Slow Art Collective
19 – 23 Jan: Chinese Rice Field will remain installed and visitors are invited to drop in and experience the work that has been created

SAC (Slow Art Collective) is an artistic collective that focuses on creative practices and ethics relating to environmental sustainability, material ethics, DIY culture and collaboration.  They have worked in other cultural institutions working with the public to create interactive simple installations that are made from recycled material – they have worked at NGV Melbourne, Signal Melbourne and most recently MPavilion.

Chinese Rice Field is created by Slow Art Collective core artists Chaco Kato and Dylan Martorell.
