Friday 25 November at 6pm
FIREFLIES is a biannual print film magazine created between Berlin and Melbourne. Each issue assembles an international group of writers, artists and critics to celebrate the work of two extraordinary film directors through personal essays, creative responses, and exclusive interviews with the filmmakers.
Sitting somewhere between an informative career retrospective, a provocative symposium, and an offbeat creative homage, Fireflies passionately expands the possibilities of film criticism. We invite audiences to discover and explore treasures of global cinema through a beautifully designed print object. We also throw launch events, screenings, and talks.
Timed to coincide with the publication of Edition #4 of FIREFLIES, featuring iconoclastic filmmakers Pedro Costa and Ben Rivers – and a special event at ACMI Cinemas on December 2 - FIREFLIES co-founder Annabel Brady-Brown will be in conversation for the final FOMM of the year with James Hewison, ACMI Head of Film Programs.
Annabel Brady-Brown is a founding editor of Fireflies and co-editor of The Lifted Brow. Her film writing has appeared in MUBI Notebook, Indiewire, 4:3, The Big Issue, Kill Your Darlings and more, and she was a participant in the 2016 Locarno Critics' Academy.
