One of the great cult classics of Czechoslovak cinema, also known as Nick Carter in Prague, has just been digitally restored by the National Film Archive in Prague. An all-star cast including Rudolf Hrušínský, Miloš Kopecký, and Naďa Konvalinková, brilliant animation by Jan Švankmajer, a hilarious script from Jiří Brdečka and director Oldřich Lipský, and ingenious sight gags galore make Adele a riotously fun big screen experience.
Adele Hasn't Had Her Dinner Yet
New Yorker Nick Carter (Michal Dočolomanský), a superstar pulp fiction detective with recourse to a dizzying array of Inspector Gadget-like baddie-bashing gizmos, is called to fin de siècle Prague to solve a strange case concerning a missing dog and a carnivorous plant. As the plot thickens, the unthinkable looks likelier and likelier – could Nick's nemesis, the dreaded Gardener, have cheated death and be at large once again?
