Big Bird doesn’t fit in at all, however, and soon makes his escape, hoping to get back home.
Big Bird’s sudden departure from Sesame Street makes the news on television, delivered by roving reporter Kermit the Frog and presented by a bumbling newscaster inimitably portrayed by Chevy Chase, in one of many surprise cameos. The Sesame Street gang mobilises in order to locate Big Bird and bring him home; Bert and Ernie take to the air, Oscar the Grouch sets off with Maria and friends in his Sloppy Jalopy, Cookie Monster joins Gordon, Olivia and Linda in the Volkswagen Beetle and Super Grover literally drops in to help.
Big Bird may not have the best sense of direction (or be able to fly for that matter), but with a little help from his friends he might just work out how to get to Sesame Street.
“… the lesson at the heart of this gentle tale of friendship is that Big Bird belongs on Sesame Street because it is home to ''all kinds.'' And when Big Bird and his pal the Snuggle-upagus realize that ''For hugging you need the real thing,'' it's good to have a kid along.” Walter Goodman, The New York Times.

Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird
5 Sep - 22 Sep
Big Bird loves his home and the colourful characters that live on Sesame Street including Oscar the Grouch, Count von Count, Bert and Ernie and his bestest friend, Mr Snuffleupagus. Despite this, Mrs Finch from the Feathered Friends' Board of Birds takes Big Bird far away from Sesame Street to live with a rather delirious family of dodos.
