Conflagration is one of Ichikawa's better known films, masterfully told in a non-linear narrative, and combines austere imagery and skilfully executed flashbacks. It is based on the novel The Temple of the Golden Pavilion by Yukio Mishima.
Conflagration is screened as part of the Japanese Film Festival's Kon Ichikawa Retrospective.
Presented by The Japan Foundation and ACMI
