Chinese Film Research

In conjunction with the University of Melbourne, a research project has been developed to ensure the conservation and survival of an important film collection donated to ACMI by the Chinese Consulate.

The Chinese Consulate Collection of 126 feature films represents a diverse and surprising cross-section of Chinese film history. The project aims to highlight the collection through the researching, collecting and communicating information about each film. While many in the collection are historically significant and recognisable to Chinese audiences, they remain relatively unknown in Australia.

Students and staff from the University of Melbourne School of Culture and Communication are undertaking research, investigating and evaluating the collection. It is hoped the project findings will provide a framework for future exhibition and assist the possible digitisation of the collection.
